How does the treatment work?Gentle Therapeutic Manipulation (GTM) Therapy or 'Neuromyopathy' (which translates to 'nerves' and 'muscles') consists of the gentle realignment of the vertebrae by use of minimal fingertip pressure of our highly experienced therapist, accompanied by the voluntary muscular movements of the patients as directed by the therapist. GTM Therapy works by use of manipulation without trauma or force to re-align the spine at the neck or back by encouraging the vertebrae to align to the corrected positioning. This in turn relieves vertebral pressure on the nerve and alleviates a multitude of related, seemingly localised pain conditions. We treat not only the condition, but the cause of it, to resolve related symptoms. For example, if someone is suffering from Occupational Over-use Syndrome (OOS) which effects the elbows, wrists, hands and fingers; treatment is often focused on the area where the symptom or pain is felt; however this condition is caused by inflammation of the nerves originating in the neck which continue through the arm to the hands and fingers. Therefore treatment focused on the realignment of the neck will in turn bring relief to this related condition and its pain symptoms.

What kinds of conditions do you treat?Conditions that benefit from our treatment: Headaches, migraines Neck and back pain Numbness/pins and needles Facial conditions - e.g. blurred vision or locked jaw Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) Occupational Over-use Syndrome (OOS) Lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow) Adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder) Leg, knee and foot conditions - e.g. Sciatica Reflux/Nausea Bladder control Among many other conditions related to spinal and muscular misalignment. If you aren't sure whether our treatment will help your condition, feel free to call and discuss this with Raylene, she will be happy to help.

What makes your treatment different from others?Gentle GTM Therapy is a non-invasive technique which means that the treatment is safe for all ages. This means that we often treat those that are unable to receive other kinds of treatments, such as unsettled newborns or older persons. We treat the cause, not the symptom Our treatment focuses on treating the cause of a condition rather than the symptom that comes from it. For example if someone is suffering from Occupational Over-use Syndrome (OOS) which effects the elbows, wrists, hands and fingers; treatment is often focused on the area where pain is felt; however this condition is caused by "insert nerve effected and link to neck here", therefore treatment focused on the realignment of the neck will in turn bring relief to this related condition. Relief with 2-3 treatments* Unlike many other modalities, The Morgan Clinic wont keep asking you to come back for treatment for weeks or even months. In most cases you are able to be assessed and treated in two sessions. *At Raylene's discretion you may be asked to return for more treatments dependent on your condition or whether after care has been undertaken correctly. As with all treatments, relief may not always be accomplished. In these cases Raylene will do her best to recommend or refer to seek further assessment.

What happens at my appointment(s)?Raylene will assess and walk you through the condition or issue that may be bringing you discomfort or pain and begin treatment on the first appointment. The initial appointment will take around half an hour. Bear in mind, a follow-up treatment will be required 48-72 hours after the initial treatment. We will book you in for this at the time of your first appointment should you wish. The second appointment will take around 15-20 minutes.
-
Is there any aftercare?Yes. At the time of the appointment, Raylene will provide you with information and the steps you need to take in order to ensure the success of the initial and follow-up treatments. This includes reviewing your day to day activity and movements while the treatment takes effect, as well as instruction on how and where to use ice packs to aid the treatments effectiveness.

Why does The Morgan Clinic recommend the use of short bursts of ice versus long-icing or heat? When you hurt yourself and are feeling pain in your back, neck or other parts of your body related to a nerve irritation, it means that your muscle(s) have swollen and begin to put pressure onto your nerve(s) in order to protect the injured area. A natural and common response to this type of pain is to massage the area or apply heat such as heat pads or heating gels, or perhaps apply ice for elongated periods of time (which can also have a heating effect). In your bloodstream you have lactic acid which expands with heat or friction (think soreness after exercise); applying heat to an irritated area may initially provide relief while heat is applied, however ultimately causes muscles to further expand and cause more nerve irritation and pain. Conversely if you use a short burst of ice as The Morgan Clinic recommends (5 seconds only), this in turn shocks the system, causing blood vessels to move toward the warmer parts of the body and release blood; muscles will then pull away to feed off the blood which clears the nerve and eases the irritation. This approach is more likely to reset the area and allow the inflammation to settle.
